John Andrews

The pre-session for tonight's session will be introducing the PDR, your final deliverable in the academy!

Afterwards, you'll hear from Southwest Research Institute's John Andrews! John is the Executive Director of the Space Mission Directorate in the Solar System Science & Exploration Division at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). He has 38 years of experience in the development, operations and management of Principal Investigator led space science instrumentation and missions. He has held management positions on multiple projects across the NASA space science enterprise including: the Lucy Discovery mission to the Jupiter Trojan Asteroids, the New Horizons New Frontiers mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt, the Radiation Assessment Detector for the Curiosity Mars Science Laboratory, the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph for the Hubble Space Telescope, and the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer mission. John was the overall business capture lead and Phase A project manager for the Lucy mission and upon the mission’s successful down-select became the mission’s Deputy Project Manager for the Science Payload and Science Investigation. In addition to continuing the management of various projects/missions at SwRI John leads the business development activities in the Solar System Science & Exploration division focusing on the capture of future space science instruments and missions. John has a BS in Engineering Physics and MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado and is an avid amateur historian of the age of exploration and the maps produced from those explorations.
